Wawa’s Lake Superior webcam is focused on the navigation beacon at the mouth of the mighty Michipicoten River. The northernmost shore of Lake Superior Provincial Park makes a scenic background. The Lake Superior webcam is located at Rock Island Lodge and Naturally Superior Adventures’ Paddling Centre, just one kilometre downstream from Buck’s Marina, Wawa’s only Lake Superior marina.
Expect the Lake Superior webcam to capture some spectacular scenes of crystal clear water and the thundering Gales of November made famous by Gordon Lightfoot.
Lake Superior is the world’s largest expanse of freshwater and the home and playground of the iconic “Mishepishu,” the great horned lynx of the Ojibwa. A pictograph depicting Mishipishu is painted on the face of Agawa Rock in Lake Superior Provincial Park. Lake Superior has inspired many artists including AY Jackson, Lawren Harris and the Group of Seven, pianist Glen Gould and local potter Jim Saunders and watercolour painter Bob Paterson.
Pleasure craft operators looking to fuel-up or anchor at Buck’s Lake Superior marina can check out real-time conditions at the mouth of the Michipicoten River. Or you can get caught up in the action of the annual Wawa Salmon Derby, which takes place in mid-August. Also expect to see canoeists and sea kayakers embarking upon or returning from wilderness paddling in Lake Superior Provincial Park, Pukaskwa National Park and the Lake Superior Highlands Conservation Reserve. Be sure to take a break from your Lake Superior Circle Tour, Lake Superior sea kayaking, canoeing or pleasure boating vacation to drop in and visit the Lake Superior webcam.
